Richmond Upon Thames is set to sparkle once again as the annual Christmas Lights Switch-On takes place on Thursday 27 November, transforming the town centre into a festive wonderland.
George Street will be the heart of the celebrations, with Be Richmond bringing together an evening of entertainment for families, friends and visitors from 4pm onwards.
The evening entertainment begins on stage with Riverside Radio at 5pm with a local choir lifting spirits. This will be followed by a showstopping medley from the Wickedly witches, singing favourites from the west-end smash hit, Defying Gravity to For Good.
Basil Brush, one of Britain’s best-loved characters, will then take to the stage, adding a dash of comedy and nostalgia.
Meanwhile, stilt walkers, The Mean Green Christmas Thief and Cindy Lou, plus the Green and Pink Witches, will mingle with the crowd, creating magical moments across the town centre.
At 5.50pm, the Mayor of Richmond upon Thames will join the stage alongside the Chair of Be Richmond to prepare for the main event.
At 6pm sharp the switch will be flicked, bathing the town in light and marking the official start of the season. To soundtrack the moment, Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You will fill the streets, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Visitors are invited to explore late-night shopping in Richmond’s variety of independent and high-street stores, stop for a festive bite in local restaurants, or enjoy a drink in one of the many bars and cafes.
The 26ft Christmas tree, funded by Be Richmond, will shine as a centrepiece in the town square, offering the perfect backdrop for annual family photos.
