Be Richmond, the Business Improvement District for Richmond town centre, has launched the second year of its community photography competition, Be Inspired, inviting budding photographers to capture the beauty, character and everyday moments that make this London borough so special.

Running from 1–31 May 2026, the competition encourages people aged 16 and over to submit photographs celebrating Richmond upon Thames through one of three categories: Green Space, High Street and Riverside.

Following the success of last year’s competition, this year’s initiative aims not only to celebrate local creativity, but also to encourage people to rediscover Richmond’s vibrant high street, iconic green spaces and picturesque riverside through a fresh lens.

Whether it’s a peaceful moment in Richmond’s parks, the atmosphere of the bustling town centre, or sunlight reflecting across the Thames, entrants are encouraged to tell a story through photography, regardless of experience or equipment.

The competition will be judged by renowned Richmond-based National Geographic photographer Alex Saberi, who will select the overall winner and runners-up, with the winners set to be announced on 20 June 2026. Selected entries, alongside the winning photographs, will also be showcased in a public exhibition hosted at Richmond and Hillcroft Adult and Community College from 22 June, celebrating the creativity and perspectives of the local community.

In addition, the winning will feature in a silent auction at a Be Richmond business engagement event later this summer, raising funds for local charity Habitats & Heritage.

Eleanor Miller, Manager, Be Richmond, said:

“Richmond is full of extraordinary moments, from its stunning green spaces and riverside views to the independent businesses and everyday interactions that give the town its character.

Through Be Inspired, we want to celebrate the unique perspectives of the people who live, work and spend time here, while also encouraging the community to explore and support everything Richmond has to offer.

We’re especially proud that this year’s competition will also help raise funds for Habitats & Heritage, supporting the conservation of Richmond’s local heritage and landscapes.”

Prizes include a two-night stay with Countrywide Hotels for the overall winner, which includes the luxury boutique hotel, The Selwyn in Richmond.

The second-place winner will receive two pairs of eyewear from IOLLA, choosing from a wide range of prescription glasses, non-prescription sunglasses or prescription sunglasses, with each pair valued at £85.

The third-place winner will receive a £100 dining voucher for No 1a Duke Street.

The competition is open to all abilities, including students aged 16 and over. Organisers hope the initiative will inspire people to see Richmond in new ways while creating a visual celebration of the town and its community.

Entries are open from 1–31 May 2026 and you can enter by submitting your best photograph via the Be Richmond website here https://berichmond.london/be-inspired-2026
