Next year marks an extraordinary milestone in Richmond’s history as The Poppy Factory celebrates 100 years in the riverside town. To mark the start of these celebrations, Be Richmond and The Poppy Factory are collaborating on this year’s Be Remembered community campaign.
From 1st to 15th November, Richmond’s planters will be beautifully decorated with hundreds of poppies, transforming the town centre into a living tribute to those who served. This collaboration celebrates the courage, creativity and compassion of generations who have worked at, supported or benefited from The Poppy Factory over the past century.
The displays will provide a striking reminder of the deep connection between Richmond’s remarkable history and the nation’s story of remembrance.
Be Richmond, the Business Improvement District representing local businesses, is proud to continue its partnership with The Poppy Factory to honour the incredible individuals who have contributed to its longstanding place in the community.
The Poppy Factory has long been part of the town’s heart. Founded to provide employment for wounded soldiers returning from the First World War, it moved to Richmond in 1926, creating a close-knit community of veterans and families.
The current factory opened in 1933 and continues to be a place of purpose and hope, supporting veterans and their loved ones across the UK. The charity’s Veteran and Family Services continue to help ex-Forces personnel rebuild their lives through employment and support.
Today, visitors to the factory can learn about its history and meet the talented production team who still hand-make Remembrance wreaths every year.
As Richmond looks ahead to the centenary, Be Richmond invites local people and visitors to share their memories, photos and personal stories of remembrance by tagging in @berichmondUK and @thepoppyfactory on social channels.
