Richmond Businesses Vote YES in BID Ballot

Richmond Businesses Vote YES in BID Ballot

Media Release – Published Friday, 11 February 2022.

In a widely publicised independent postal ballot held over a 4 week period, Richmond businesses have decisively voted YES for a further 5 years of Be Richmond, the brand persona of the Richmond Business Improvement District (BID).

The approval for Be Richmond continues to give businesses in Richmond Town centre a greater say in how the town is managed.

The outcome of the ballot gives Be Richmond a strong mandate to continue its work enhancing and promoting the town.

The ballot result was announced by Craig Poyser, scrutineer and agent for the ballot holder on Friday, 11th February.

From a 41% turnout, 79% voted in favour by number and 89% by rateable value. For be Richmond to continue its tenure, a majority was required on both counts, and this was comfortably achieved.

Ellen Amorina Storrar, Be Richmond Manager added:

“The Richmond business community is incredibly passionate about our town’s success and the result of this ballot reflects that.  We will get straight to work implementing our business plan, including the continuation of the many valuable business services already in place.”

Hannah Lawson, Landlady of the Angel & Crown said:

“The Angel and Crown is happy to hear that Be Richmond was voted in for another term. They will continue to change the face of Richmond in a positive way – for example, keeping the streets safer, cleaner and more inviting for everyone who works and visits here. As a community pub, we are excited to be part of Be Richmond’s plans for the next 5 years.”

Jorge Coelho, Restaurant Director at Gaucho added:

“As a restaurant that looks out over Richmond’s beautiful riverside, we are delighted that Be Richmond will continue its work to raise the profile of our wonderful town to locals and visitors for the next five years.”

Ratnesh Bagdai, Finance Director at Tapas Brindisa sent his congratulations:

“We have been (and continue to be) humbled at the reception we have received since we opened, and are very much looking forward to our future in Richmond, of which Be Richmond is a vital part. We’re thrilled that they have (rightly) won a further 5 years to continue their fantastic work to continually improve the local area for businesses, residents and visitors alike.”

Be Richmond Chair and CEO of leading global patent solutions provider, Minesoft, Ann Chapman-Daniel believes the result is great news for everyone in the area:

“On behalf of the Be Richmond board, we are thrilled that Richmond businesses have voted overwhelmingly in favour of continued investment in our town centre. We have some very exciting plans, including projects from the Future Vision for Richmond portfolio, designed to enhance public spaces for everyone who lives, works and visits here.
