CHRISTOPHER BIGGINS TO LIGHT UP RICHMOND TOWN CENTRE
Be Richmond is excited to announce that this year’s Christmas Lights will be switched on by the town’s very own Widow Twankey, the legendary Christopher Biggins.
Mr Biggins will be appearing in character as the pantomime dame, one of his best known roles, to get the festive season started on Friday, November 24.
His visit comes ahead of his performance in Aladdin at Richmond Theatre, which runs from December 9 to January 14.
‘The Big Christmas Light Switch’ will take place outside Whole Foods Market and across the Town Centre on Friday 24 November between 5pm and 6.15pm.
It is the first time the annual event has been organised by Richmond’s new Business Improvement District, Be Richmond.
In addition to Christopher Biggins, there will be music, a Christmas choir and live street entertainers. Many of the shops and restaurants across the town will also have special offers and free treats to add to the festive mood.
On the same day, The Vineyard Community Centre will host a Santa’s Grotto from 4pm until 6pm with face painting and festive activities. Visits cost £2.50 which includes a gift and all proceeds go towards helping the homeless.
Festive activities also continue on Saturday 25 November with street entertainment and carol singers from 11am until 3pm.
Be Richmond chairman Erick Kervaon said:
“Friday 24th November will be a great family day in Richmond, with Santa’s Grotto, the Big Christmas Light Switch and live entertainment. It’s also a great opportunity to do some quality Christmas shopping in Richmond’s excellent selection of big name and speciality stores.
“Family entertainment will continue in the town centre on Saturday, so it’s not just a great evening, but a great festive weekend.”
