Making Richmond Safe for Retail Reopening

Making Richmond Safe for Retail Reopening

Safe S.P.A.C.E. Initiative designed to reassure shoppers.

In order to support Richmond’s retailers by reassuring shoppers that the town is a safe place to visit, shop and explore, Be Richmond have launched the Safe S.P.A.C.E Initiative.

Recent research studies suggest that between 36% and 44% of people have serious concerns about leaving lockdown and coming out to shop. Without these people, retail isn’t viable.

The scheme works on 2 levels:

A safe town environment

Be Richmond businesses are funding twice weekly spraying of people-facing touchpoints throughout the town with a long-lasting anti-COVID-19 spray that kills pathogens and prevents reinfection for up to 72 hours.

Be Richmond is also working with London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and the police to promote social distancing and safe queuing in Richmond.

A safe shopping experience

Retailers in Richmond are being encouraged to participate in the Safe S.P.A.C.E Initiative to reassure shoppers that their store is a safe environment

The initiative is an agreement to adopt a safe operating charter

S – sanitiser available at key areas in shops

P – protective equipment to be worn/used where necessary

A – area carefully managed to ensure social distancing at all times

C – cleansing of all surfaces on a regular basis

E – environment that is safe and hygienic

Participating businesses will display a window sticker saying ‘Safe S.P.A.C.E. Here’

Be Richmond Manager Ellen Amorina Storrar said:

“We need to support our retailers and help them rebuild their businesses back to pre-lockdown levels. The Safe S.P.A.C.E. is designed to encourage shoppers back in to Richmond by demonstrating that the town and its shops are safe environments”
