Town centre to be regularly disinfected in bid to prevent new lockdown.
Following recent media reports of a rise in the weekly rate of coronavirus cases in the borough*, businesses in Richmond town centre are funding a new programme of regular deep cleansing of people-facing surfaces in the town with an anti-COVID-19 viricidal disinfectant spray.
The action is designed to support local businesses by reassuring consumers that the town is safe and by helping to prevent a local lockdown.
The disinfectant, which is harmless to passers-by and the environment, not only kills COVID-19 pathogens in seconds, it also creates a barrier against future infection and, once applied, will remain active for up to 2 days after cleaning. It was used successfully in the town throughout the summer.
Starting on 12th October, an estimated 10,000 square metres of surface area will be disinfected twice weekly.
The deep cleansing is being organised by Be Richmond (the brand persona of the Richmond Business Improvement District), which comprises over 300 member businesses.
Ellen Amorina Storrar, the Richmond BID Manager said:
“Many of our member businesses are in the retail and hospitality industries and were badly hit by the lockdown. Given the recent media reports about a rise in the local Coronavirus infection rate, we wanted to take pre-emptive action to prevent a new lockdown. We want to demonstrate that Richmond is a safe environment where people can feel confident and reassured. We will do whatever we can to achieve this.
Our businesses are playing their part by operating full safety protocols. We are calling on shoppers and diners in the town to do their bit by acting responsibly, respecting social distancing, using face coverings, and practising hand hygiene. Together we can all help to keep Richmond open for business”.
