The Prime Minister’s recent announcement regarding the proposed ‘roadmap’ out of lockdown outlined the tests and steps involved in a gradual return to normality. What many people are looking forward to, is the chance to enjoy a delicious meal with friends or family at their favourite restaurant. If all goes to plan and the vaccine roll-out continues to be successful then (fingers crossed), the end is sight.
But, as Sophie Porter points out, if your favourite restaurant happens to be 144 On The Hill, you don’t have to wait. Whilst it’s not currently possible to relax in the splendid surroundings of the restaurant itself, it is possible to savour a mouth-watering array of your favourite dishes in the comfort of your own home.

When you wander up the gorgeous Richmond Hill to gaze across the breath-taking vista of Richmond Meadows down to the river, you’ll normally find a bustling 144 On The Hill perched right on top. Inside, the talented chefs are still cooking up a storm over at Richmond Hill Hotel’s award-winning foodie hotspot. This gorgeous restaurant, bar and terrace would usually be in full swing this spring, but they are currently serving up a selection of their sumptuous dishes for you to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.
Whether it is a night off cooking, burgers for the big game, or a special treat for a mini celebration, you can discover a 144 at home feast to fulfil your restaurant food fix this month. Created by Executive Head Chef, Jessen Valaydon, the gorgeously creative menu uses responsibly sourced ingredients. You’ll find something for everyone from small bites and sweet treats to the delight that is their delicate afternoon tea.
For a weekend feast
Choose your ideal combination of signature burgers – from gin and juniper to halloumi and maple – paired with some small bites to share. Flash fried chilli & lime calamari and grilled vegetable antipasti work perfectly alongside marinated creamy burrata salad with pickled beets. To finish, why not add on a cocoa sponge with English salted caramel and cherry compote, or seasonal fruit crumble with cinnamon sauce.
For a sweet celebration
144’s wondrous afternoon tea is the perfect way to while away an afternoon. Inspired by their beautiful surroundings, their delicate sandwiches on artisan bread, freshly baked scones and decadent patisserie selection are accompanied by their very own blend of Whittard of Chelsea tea. Usually served in their elegant and contemporary Georgian lounge, you can now enjoy this absolute treat at home.
For a relaxing Sunday
On Sundays, pop over to 144 On The Hill to pick up a spectacular roast with all the trimmings. Their slow braised striploin of Surrey farm beef, lemon and thyme chicken and chestnut mushroom, lentil and nut roasts are served with crispy potatoes, fluffy Yorkshire puddings, honey roasted carrots, spring greens and lashings of roasting jus.
For an outdoor picnic
Picnics are already in the planning for when we can enjoy time outside with friends and family again. Brunches in the beautiful Richmond Park and takeaway afternoon teas by the Thames to celebrate being able to make the most of every minute again with ones you love are coming soon. Keep an eye out over on Instagram and on the website for their launch in early March to coincide with the restrictions easing for two people to socialise outdoors.
For alfresco dining in real life!
Brighter days are on the way and 144 will be inviting you to spend them relaxing on their gorgeous sun-trap of a terrace with a cocktail in hand, the warm breeze on your face, and an order of your favourite delicious small plates on the way. Their bright and beautiful terrace is planning to open from 12th April for dining and drinks in the spring sunshine (subject of course to any further guidance).
